BREITLING Chronomat 44 RAVEN [to dive or not to dive]

By TLex The first thing to say about the new Breitling Chronomat 44 Raven, is that it isn’t strictly a diver; it’s a pilot watch. However, it does have 200 meters of water-resistance, it does have a unidirectional timing bezel and both its crown and caseback are of the screwdown type. It even has orange luminous markings. Hmm, perhaps it is a diver after all!

With its black case and dial combined with contrasting orange accents, a Manufacture Breitling Caliber 01 with a décor featuring the same orange on black contrast, the Chronomat 44 Raven is a real looker no matter what genre it might fall into.

Its satin-brushed steel case has been entirely clad in a black a high-resistance carbon-based coating to match its rubber strap. The unidirectional rotational bezel features orange rubber inlaid numerals for a highly-readable contrast.

The same bright orange touches are echoed on the chapter-ring, the chronograph seconds hand and the sub-dial pointers. A look through the Sapphire crystal caseback reveals more orange and black with orange text on the black rotor powering the Manufacture Breitling Caliber 01 that it is equipped with.

And like all Breitling instruments – the self-winding movement is a C.O.S.C-certified chronometer (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute), which is the highest benchmark in terms of reliability and precision.
